The Eco-Access team:

Eco-Access is a consulting group. We are two individuals exploring a "new way" for providing services and promoting partnerships with commercial enterprises, non-profit organizations, and government.


Who is Maria Barile?

With more than thirty years experience as a community worker with women with disabilities, Maria Barile is one of the original group of 17 women that started
Dis- Abled Women’s Network (DAWN) Canada and one of the founders of Action des femmes handicapées (Montréal)In the 1980's, Barile was an employment counsellor for people with disabilities at L’ ETAPE. 

Having published in the area of disability, feminism, and technology, Maria offers workshops and lectures on issues of ableism / disableism. In the past 20 years she presented to various commissions on the use of depo provera, violence and other issues that effect women with disabilities and has advocated to improve access to the health care system and women’s shelters (for women with disabilities).  She is called upon regularly for her expertise on disability by different organizations.

Currently, Maria is a co-director of the Adaptech Research Network based at Dawson College, which conducts research on computer technologies and students with disabilities.

Experience

  • Established and coordinated a range of organizations and  focus groups
  • Worked within the disability rights’ and women’s movements
  • Conducts feminist, action, participatory and emancipatory research

  • Counselling and community work in areas of violence, employment and health
  • Lectures in universities and CEGEPs (colleges) community organizations, and the public and semi-public sector
  • Use of interior design to promote the concept of Universal Design

Who is Gary Guay?

 Gary Guay has a vast educational background in leadership from Dawson College and Concordia University, a certificate in Gerontology from Marie Victorin and a DEC in social science from Vanier College.

Mr. Guay has participated in various group activities, including:  Regroupement des usagers du transport adapté (RUTA), Fondation Claude St. Jean, Kéroule, L`Amour sur Roues/Love on Wheels, Association de loisirs des personnes handicapées physiques de Montréal (ALPHA);

His experience in the field of disability ranges from employment to participating on boards of directors, as an active member of various organizations and as an athlete in sports and recreation. Notably, he has been a student of Nanbudo for several years. Also see Video

  • He holds a silver medal from Championnat provincial de boccia (2004 season), from Joseph-Charbonneau a Montréal
  • Mr. Guay has recently completed a white sail level 2 with AQVA.
